SW Michigan Game Of The Week: Harper Creek @ Marshall
For the last few years, we have had the opportunity to bring you all the Battle Creek Game Of The Week each Friday night. This year, we are expanding to include more schools in Southwest Michigan and truly search for the area's best game.
Although there are some changes being made, some things are staying the same. What's that old saying? Don't fix what isn't broken or something like that! That's our motto, our team is staying the same, but we are just looking to expand and provide the best High School Football coverage possible for Southwest Michigan.
After 3 weeks in the high school football season, we can say this is one of the craziest that we have seen in Southwest Michigan in quite some time, if ever. The Battle Creek Central Bearcats go down in losing fashion but are in the history books as their multi-overtime 77-76 loss to Mattawan is the state's highest scoring game ever. Pennfield grabbed their first win last week 30-22 over Northwest while Lakeview is still searching for their first win of the season.
That only leaves the Harper Creek Beavers to be mentioned and they are as advertised. They have started the season 3-0 and are outscoring their opponents 77-9 so far on the season. All of that may change in this week's highly touted matchup with conference foe and bitter rival, the Marshall Redhawks. Marshall also comes into the came 3-0 with blowout wins over Montrose and Lansing Waverly before narrowly escaping Hastings with a late game hook and ladder heroic play.
This leads to both teams being ranked inside of the top 10 teams in the state of their respective divisions. This may very well be the game that decides the Interstate 8 conference champion, assuming that both teams win out from this week on. This is a game that could be a defensive slugfest, provide tons of offensive fireworks, or utter domination by one side.
This game will take place on Friday September 11th, pregame will start at 6:45, and kickoff will be at 7pm from Marshall High School football stadium. The booth will consist of Jacob Harrison as play-by-play, and I (Da'Jzon Hughes) will be on color commentary. A postgame show will follow where we will give out our Lakeview Ford player of the game as well.
